The fact that William is an Episcapal Minister seems to tie this William to the Craighill family.4 Lillie and William appeared on the census of 14 April 1930 in Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia; Lillie is listed a "Wistar L."5 William Clarkson Marshall and Lillie Wistar Craighill appeared on the census of 11 April 1940 in Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia; Lillie is listed as "Wistar C.      Marion Josephine Armstrong was born on 15 May 1887 at Culpeper, Virginia; She was born, or so she was told, at the home of her father's "distant relatives", Cousin Fanny and Cousin Margaret Jury, two maiden ladies.1 She was the daughter of Luther Kelly Armstrong and Marion Rebecca Brown. Marion lived in Culpeper until she was thirteen years of age. Her fondest memories seemed to have been those of the many months she spent roaming the farms of several of her Father's kin. In particular, her father's home at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Rappahannock County, and the much larger farm of "Uncle-Cousin Tom". "Uncle-Cousin Tom" who was married to "Aunt Annie" his first cousin. First cousin marriages were something that Marion's mother strongly opposed. Of her Culpeper relative's, she seemed to have liked Cousin Jo Payne the most. In 1900, the family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where Marion finished the eighth grade commuting to Brightwood School in Washington, D.C. by street car. To reach the streetcar, she had permission to walk through small estate of Jessup Blair to the district line. Her mother's older sister, "Aunt Mary", then insisted that she stay with her for the last two years of high school and it was at Aunt Mary's, while preparing to attend Normal School that she met "Gene".1 Marion Josephine Armstrong first appears in the Armstrong household during the census of Luther Kelly Armstrong and Marion Rebecca Brown on 11 June 1900 at Wheaton District (Silver Sping), Montgomery County, Maryland.2 Marion married Harry Eugene Burke Sr., son of Herman Daniel Burke and Sarah Eugenia Jones, on 8 April 1907 in in the parsonage of the Assistant Pastor of the Epiphany Episcopal Church., Washington, D. C..3,1 "Gene" met Marion Armstrong while Marion was living with her Aunt Mary (in Washington, D.C.) They met at a neibor's card party. As Marion remembered it "One stormy night I was asked to fill in for an absentee and somehow became a regular. No, it's not what you are thinking! Remember, he was 9 years older than I and had a very prominent nose!". They honeymooned at Kamas, Utah Where Gene spent the summer assessing insect damage in Utah forrests. Marion and Gene appeare on the census of 15 April 1910 in Washington, D. C..4 They are recordedi n the census of 23 January 1920 in Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California.5 On the census of 16 April 1930 they are recorded at 1551 Emmerson, Palo Alto, California.6 Marion Josephine Armstrong and Harry Eugene Burke Sr. appeared on the census of 3 May 1940 in Redwood Township (Los Gatos), California.7 After living for over 50 years on a government pension, Marion Josephine Armstrong died on 26 July 1984 at San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, at age 97.8
