According to uncle Herman, "when he was an Ice Man in Washington, D.C., Walter Johnson was one of his regular customers and they became friends. One of His memories was of attending a Carnival with Walter. Walter paid to throw baseballs at some stuffed animals (cats?). When Walter hit the "Cat" dead center and it failed to fall over, his next pitch tore it in half. The carnival guy gave him (Walter) a box of good quality cigars and told him to go away".7 Herman Edgar Breeden and Walter Perry "The Big Train" Johnson were associated before 1930 at Washington, District of Columbia. Herman was Walter's Ice Man.8 Herman appeared on the census of 9 April 1930 in Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland.9 Herman Edgar Breeden married Janet Wilmer Armstrong, daughter of Luther Kelly Armstrong and Marion Rebecca Brown, after 9 April 1930 at Washington, D. Scott st., Arlington, Virginia.10 Herman died on 6 January 1954 at Virginia at age 59.11 He was buried on 8 January 1954 at Arlington National Cemetary, Arlington, Virginia.12,5 He When Uncle Herman and Aunt Janit visited the H.E. Burkes in the late 40's or early 50's, Unce Hemran was impressed with the quality of fir on pocket gophers. He spent his time traping gophers but didn't come close to enough fir for a coat.7 As grand nephew David Pratt rembers, "Uncle Herman" was the only man he ever saw that could chew steak and eat corn off the cob with his gums (he wore false teath except to eat).7
