Leo Joseph Pratt was born on 23 November 1898 at Cheboygan, Cheboygan County, Michigan; By all accounts, Leo was born to John and Adelina Merchant. If so, he was obviously born out of wedlock as his parents did not marry until 1904 and Leo was born in 1898. For what ever reason, Leo does not seem to have recorded during the 1900 census. Interestingly, a Leo Merchant was recorded as having been born to Leo's grand parents exactly one month after Leo's birth. Coincedence or are they the same person?1,2 He was the son of John L Pratt and Marie Adelina Merchant.1 On 12 September 1918 Leo was recorded on a World War I Draft Registration Card at Cheboygan County, Michigan. At the time He was living in Aloah, Michigan. He listed his mother, Mrs. William Pethers, as his contact.3 On 7 January 1920 a Leo Pratt, age 21, was appeared on the 1920 census in Benton, Cheboygan County, Michigan.4 On 14 January 1920a Leo Pratt was working as a hired hand at a Cedar Camp, run by Fred Fisher on the 1920 census in Bearinger, Presque Isle County, Michigan.5 Leo Joseph Pratt Question: Which Leo is John Pratt's son or are they the same person?6 He married Mary Mae Lemon, daughter of Daniel/David Alexander Lemon and Amelia Mercier, on 16 June 1924 at Onaway, Presque Isle County, Michigan.1 Leo and Mary Pratt and Mary Mae Lemon appeared on the census of 9 April 1930 in Benton, Cheboygan County, Michigan.7 They appeared on the census of 12 April 1940 in Aloha, Cheboygan County, Michigan.8 Leo died on 25 December 1986 at Cheboygan, Michigan, at age 88.2 Leo was included in the obituary of his daughter, Gertrude Theresa Pratt, on 18 September 2008 at Cheboygan; From that obituary in the Cheboygan Daily Tribune 30 Sep 2008: "A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, Theresa was born May 15, 1931 in Benton Township, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Lemon) Pratt.; Surviving are two sisters, Rosella Smith of Watford and Evelyn (Don) Passino of Indian River, and two brothers, Ken (Jen) Pratt and Leonard (Gloria) Pratt, both of Cheboygan, A brother-in-law, Gene Michelin of Keego Harbor, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, Phyllis Michelin and Della Bell, and two brothers in law. Cayton Bell and Joe Smth".9,10,11
