Baldwin.1 Mary Langhorne married Robert Townsend, son of Richard Townsend and Frances Ann Baldwin, on 6 April 1665.1,2 Mary Langhorne died on 4 June 1685 at St. Paul's Parish, Albion, Stafford County, Virginia.1,3 She "Mary, or Maria, Townshend, was widow of Colonel Robert Townshend, of Stafford county, Va. (who died in 1675), and daughter of Needham Langhorne, of Newton Brownshall, Northamptonshire, England. After her husband's death she resided for a time in England, and there is on record in Virginia a power of attorney from her dated at Newton Brownshall. Colonel Robert and Mary Townshend had issue, to survive, two daughters: I. Mary, who married John Washington, Jr., son of Lawrence Washington, the immigrant, and his many descendants; 2. Frances, married (I) Francis Dade of Stafford county, and has many descendants; (II) Captain Johjn Withers, no issue, it is believed, by this marriage, though Captain Withers had a daughter and heiress, who in 1699, was the wife of Richard Fossaker, of Staford county; (III) in 1699, Rice Hooe, and has many descendants. In the visitation of Hertford shire 1634 (Harleian Society), in a pedigree of "Langhorne of Bedford," which begins with William Langhorne of Bedford [born about 1560].4, whose eldest son was Robert-marriage or descendants not given-and whose second son William, was father of William Langhorne, of the Middle Temple, 1634, who married Lettice, daughter of Eustace Needham, of Little Wimondley, Herfordshire. In the same visitation is the pedgree of Needham, of Little Wymondley and Wilwyn, from which it appears the John Needham, of Wymondley (of the third generation in the pedigree), had a daughter Margaret, who married Robert Langhorne, of Bedford, and a granddaughter, Lettice, as above, who married William Langhorne. Dear Sir - Your Grandfather departed this life in the month of Sepetember last, of which I endeavored to give you the earliest intelligense, but as I have had no answer to my letter, nor have I heard from you I came home which is more than two years, I take this oppotunity to write you again in hopes that it may reach you safely. No sooner than your Grandfather's dissolution took place but Dixon's creditors did everything to dissapoint you. However, I think that played the old soldier and out-generaled them. Had it been my own affair I could not have done more than I did for you, and I am very much pleased to inform you that your 150 pounds is safe in my hands to be at your service when you think proper to draw for it, but you had better by cautious and do it secretly. I would reccomend Liverpool to be the channel, or upon consideration, Ireland will do very well. Please write me before you draw, least this letter miscarry. I will write you again and again. I am very anxious to hear from you, so delay not answering the first letter you recieve. My father died very, he owed a good deal of money in the country which he never told me of. I have sold out of the Army and have hired a palce to live at near this town. Cairnbrock was too cold for my constitution, being situated on a bleak shore where no trees will grow.
Kind compliments to Mrs. Ross; may your family always be as happy as I wish them. I am Dear Sir, Your affect Uncle, John Ross"
