     John Miller Cantrell was born on 15 August 1751 at Orange County, North Carolina.1 He was the son of John Miller Cantrell and Jane Brittain.1 John Miller Cantrell married Elizabeth Cantrell, daughter of Isaac Cantrell, circa 1779 at Guilford County, North Carolina.2 John Miller Cantrell died in 1825 at Spartanburg County, South Carolina; Will taken from "The CANTRILLl - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, pages 73 - 74, 141." -- "First: I will that all my just debts be paid, also, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Anna Turner, one hundred acres of land, more or less, lying on the Maple Swamp, on both sides of the creek. I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Synthia, one bed and two pillows and slips, four civer lids, one bed quilt, six sheets, one cow, one chest, one pot, one oven, one wheel, and table pair of cards. I give and bequeath unto my loving wife, Elizabeth Cantrell, the remainder of my estate, both real and personal, during the time of her natural life, or widowhood, to be eaually divided amongst my childre, at her death, that is to say: Abraham, Isaac, and my daughter Tilitha's heirs, and Betsey, William, Polly, Martin, Berry, Anna, Sally and her heirs, and Synthia; also twenty-five dollars to be given to my granddaughter Janny Robbins. Dear Sir - Your Grandfather departed this life in the month of Sepetember last, of which I endeavored to give you the earliest intelligense, but as I have had no answer to my letter, nor have I heard from you I came home which is more than two years, I take this oppotunity to write you again in hopes that it may reach you safely. No sooner than your Grandfather's dissolution took place but Dixon's creditors did everything to dissapoint you. However, I think that played the old soldier and out-generaled them. - on 30 March 1790.3 He married secondly Sarah Hillyer on 5 October 1794.2 John Ross died on 7 September 1796 at Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey, at age 44.1 He John Ross served as a Lieutenant Colonel of the New Jersey Militia during the Revolutionary War, and was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati.2

     Neil McLauchlin was born circa 1753 in Kilmichael-Glassary, MidShervane, Scotland; Part of the Auchyarran MacLachlans. The family seat was near Killinochchonoch, about 2 miles from Kilmartin on the Lochgilphead Road which is in the Argyll on the Kintyre peninsula.1,2 He married Sarah Leitch in 23 January 1785 in Kilmichael-Glassary.1,3 Neil McLauchlin and Sarah Leitch immigrated with their family circa 1805 to Cumberland County, North Carolina.1 Neil McLauchlin and Sarah Leitch appeared on the census of 1810 in Capt. Mac Kays District, Cumberland County, North Carolina; Free Whit Persons - Males: U10(1),10-15(1),16-25(1),45 Up(1); Females: U10(1),10-15(2),45 Up(1). Slaves: 1.4 Neil McLauchlin and Sarah Leitch also appeare on the census of 7 August 1820 in Capt. Gillis District, Cumberland County, North Carolina; Free White Persons - Males: 16-25(1), 45 Up(1); Females: 16-25(2), 25-44(1), 25 Up(1). Slaves - Males: 14-25(1).5 Neil and Sarah last appeare on the census of 1830 in Bows Creek, Cumberland County, North Carolina; Free White Persons - Males: 30-39(1),70-79(1); Females: 20-29(1), 60-69(1). "he present Long Street Presbyterian Church building was built in 1846 on land donated by Duncan McLaughlin in 1855 and served as the third church of the Argyle Community. The cemetery, which is located east of the Church on Longstreet Road, contains over 232 graves (the earliest legible marker is dated 1773, the latest is 1932), including Confederate veterans (former congregation members), and memorials honoring military servicemen.

NOTE: The church and cemetery are now part of the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and so are not open to the general public on a regular basis. However, they are open for escorted tours on the first Monday of each month or by special appointment through the Fort Bragg Cultural Resources Office, and the church is occasionally used for special events by descendants of the original members.2

     Maj Richard Cox was prominently identified in New Jersey with the Society of the Cincinnati, and was treasurer of the organization for many years.3 He was born on 3 January 1755 in New Jersey.1 He was the son of Richard Cox Esq and Mercy Taylor.2 Maj Richard Cox began military service on 9 February 1776. His military record between 9 February 1776 and 1783 was listed as a Second Lieutenant in Captain Ross' company, Third Battalion, First New Jersey Establishment; a First Lieutenant, in the same company by October 29th, 1776; a First Lieutenant, Captain Ross' company, Third Battalion, in the Second Establishment, November 29, 1776; a Captain by January 1st,1777; a Captain, Third Regiment, September 23rd, 1780; a Captain, First Regiment; Brigade Major to Brigadier General William Maxwell; Major, Second Regiment, January 6th, 1783.4 He married Jane Ross, daughter of Dr Alexander Ross and Elizabeth Beckett, on 6 April 1779 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.5,6 Maj Richard Cox ended military service in 1783 at the end of the war. After 1783 Maj Richard Cox operated a grist mill as a member of the firm of Cox and Davidson and later a member of the firm of Cox and Shreve.7 On 13 May 1786 Maj Richard Cox advertized in the Philadelphia Independent Gazetteer, a reward for a "runaway Irish servant lad, Hugh Crawley, about 18 years of age, fair complexion, a little freckled and pock marked, with dark brown hair."8 On 21 December 1790 at Burlington County, it was reported in the Burlington Advertiser that, "Isaac Cowgill, Chairman, and Richard Cox, Secretary, announce that a meeting of the public creditors of the United States held at Jacob Van Sciver's tavern at Black Horse on 17th December, it was resolved that a memorial be presented to Congress to amend a late act. A committee was appointed to draw up the said memorial, consisting of Isaac Cowgill Esq.., Major Richard Cox, Mr. John Buttler, Major John Ross and Mr. George Painter.8" He died on 9 March 1816 in Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey, at age 61.1

     William Tilghman was born on 12 August 1756 at Talbot County, Maryland.1 He was the son of James Tilghman and Anna Francis.1 William Tilghman married Margaret Elizabeth Allen on 1 July 1798 probably 1797 (if Margaret died in child birth on 9 sep 1798) at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.2,3 William Tilghman William became a member of Maryland Convention ratifying Federal Consititution and represented Kent County in Legislature 1788-90. Member of Md. State Senate 1791-92. before 1801.2 He Appointed presiding Judge of the Third Circuit, comprising part of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. on 3 March 1801 at Philadelphia, Maryland.2 He He was appointed President of the Court of Common Pleas in the First District. in May 1805.2 He was on 26 February 1806 at Philidelphia, Pennsylvania; William Tilghman was made Chief Justice of Pennsylvania.2 He William was elected President of the American Philosophical Society. in 1824.2 He died on 30 April 1827 at age 70.1

     George Michael Bedinger US Congressman. He was a farmer, served as Major in the Battle of Blue Licks, Kentucky, in 1782 and was commanding officer of the 3rd Sublegion, US Army Infantry, 1792 to 1793. He was a member of the State House of Representatives of the first legislature of Kentucky in 1792 and served in the State Senate, 1800 to 1801. In 1803, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighth and Ninth Congresses, serving until 1807. Not seeking re-nomination, he engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death. US Congressman Henry Bedinger from Virginia was his nephew.2 He was born on 10 December 1756 at Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Henry Bedinger and Magdalene VonSchlegel.1 George Michael Bedinger married Henrietta Clay, daughter of Henry Clay and Rachel Provall, before 1793.3 George Michael Bedinger died on 7 December 1843 at Upper Blue Licks, Nicholas County, Kintucky, at age 86.1

     Charles Slaughter was born in 1758 at Virginia.1,2 He was the son of Robert Slaughter and Susannah Harrison.1 Charles Slaughter married Elizabeth Poindexter (of Louisa county), daughter of John Poindexter Jr. and Sarah (?), on 3 February 1780 at Louisa County, Virginia.1,3 Charles Slaughter died in 1814.2 He "Charles Slaughter ran away form boarding school to join the Revolutionary Army and was a private in Captain Alexander Spotswood Dandridge's dragoons, from July 19, 1776, to December 1, 1778; commanded by Colonel Theodore Bland".1,2 He "In 1823 there was a settlement of Charles Slaughter's estate, when the widow received on-fourth and the balance was divided between his four children,--John P. Slaughter (named for his grand-father Poindexter)---Ann P. Davenport (nee Slaughter)---Robert Harrison Slaughter, and Eliza F. Bullock (nee Slaughter).4
