Jacob Argabrite A Revolutionary War Veteran having served in a militia company under Captain Craven in Tyggart's Valley; under General McIntosh; in a cavalry company under Captain Sullivan of Berkely county; was at the battle of Cowpens; a rifle company under Captain Coker; and was presenjt at the surrender of Cornwallis. From Clarence Argabrite's extract of VIRGINIA MILITIA IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR PART II - Virginia's Share in the Military Movement of the Revolution - ARGABRITE, JACOB.--Monroe, Oct. 15,1832. Born in Lancaster County, Pa., Oct. 20, 1760. Came to Rockingham in boyhood. Volunteered for six months in May, 1778, under Capt. Craven for service against Indians. Was stationed at Westfall's and Hutton's forts in Tygart's Valley, except for a few days spent in reconnoitering. Volunteered at end of time for three more months. Then home two weeks, after which he was marched to Ft. Pitt and Tuscarora river, assisting at the latter place in building Ft. Laurence. The troops were commanded by Maj. Nall, Col. Crawford, and Gen. McIntosh, and sometimes by Col. Gibson. He knew Lt. Parks, who was killed by Indians between Ft. McIntosh and Ft. Lawrence, and saw him lying dead in the path. Col. Crawfordtherefore wanted to kill nine or ten Indians who had come for peace, but the other officers prevailed on him not to do so. Got home in February, 1779, without having been in any battle. In the fall of 1780, volunteered for 12 months in cavalry service under Capt. Sullivan, of Berkeley, and marched to South Carolina. Was in the battles of Cowpens and Guilford, and stationed a while at Salisbury. His time expired while command was at Bowling Green, Va., recruiting their horses. One Freeze was colonel (or major). Here he volunteered for an indefinite time in a rifle company under Capt. Coper, and was at the siege of Yorktown and one or two skirmishes. Was in the guard to convey away the prisoners. Taken sick at Williamsburg and discharged at Williamsburg, after having been in the service fourteen months after starting for North Carolina. [p.56] at Rockingham County, Virginia.2 He was born on 9 September 1760 at Virginia.1,3 He married Mary (?) circa 1790 at Virginia.1 Jacob Argabrite and Mary (?) appeared on the census of 9 August 1850 in District 18, Greenbrier County, Virginia.4 Jacob Argabrite died on 9 November 1853 at Greenbrier County, West Virginia, at age 93; Death from Old Age, born in Pennsylvania, Farmer, Widower.      Jarvis Jones was born in 1761 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. He was the son of William Jones and Sarah (?)2,3 He received 40 acres in Pasquotank County from his father in 1772.4 Jarvis Jones married someone, possibly Sina Pierce circa 1781 at North Carolina; the date of their marriage is inferred from 1790 Census. While two Jarvis Jones households appear in adjoining counties---Pasquotank and Halifax and it is difficult to say which is the right Jarvis, both households have females resident---4 in Pasquotank and 6 in Halifax; Jarvis apparently had 3 daughters by 1st marriage (they are named in will of 1833, all married) before the 2 known to us."5 In 1781 a company of volunteers was raised by a Capt. Sawyer, and Jarvis Jones volunteered to serve under him. This company supposedly saw action against Torries in Pasquotank County during the summer and fall of that year.1 Jarvis Jones appeared on the census of 1790 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina; Other Jones' in the County: Henry, Isaac, James, Joseph, John, and Ruth.6 Jarvis Jones migrated to Guilford County, North Carolina in 1799 buying 109 acres on Deep River, Mar 17, 1799. By the end of February, 1805 he held a total of 209 acres along Deep River (probably adjoining properties).4 He married Pricilla (?) before 1810 in Guilford County; Jarvis Jones' second wife and probably a widow with small children which can be infered from make-up of the Jarvis Jones household in 1820 census.7,1,8,9 In in 1810 Jarvis appeared on the US Census in Guilford County; "Census shows Jarvis Jones household as consisting of 1 male over 45 (Jarvis), 1 male under 10 (?), 1 male between 26/45 (?), 2 females 16/26 (his two daughters, Rebecca and Lydia ages ca. 20 and 16, see subsequent entries), 2 females over 45 (his 1st wife, age ca. 50 if same age as he; other woman possibly his mother (?)4 )" Between 1810 and 1820 his 1st wife died(?). This is inferred from presence of younger female (Pricilla) in the 1820 Census.4 Jarvis Jones appearently move in 1812. On the 19th of Aug he sold 189 of the acres along Deep River and bought 160 acres on Muddy Creek, which runs south into Randolph County. He sold the last 20 acres on Deep River on 03 Oct 1815. on 19 August 1812.4 He appeared on the census of 1820 in Guilford County; "Census shows the Jarvis Jones household as consisting of: 1 male over 45 (Jarvis), 1 male under 10 (CP Jones), 1 female under 10 (?), 1 female 16/26 (Lydia---since she was in same age bracket 10 years earlier, she must now be 26), 1 female 26/45 (Priscilla.4)" He Jarvis Jones born to Isaac Jones son of Jarvis Jones and Sina Pierce - although Isaac Jones is supposed to be born in Guilford County in 1786, he is not mentioned in the Jarvis' will, is it possible that Isaac is a son of this Jarvis and his first wife was Sina Pierce? On 19 June 1821 at Guilford County, North Carolina. He and Pricilla (?) appeared on the census of 1830 in Guilford County; 1 male 70/80 (Jarvis),1 male 10/15 (CP Jones), 1 female 10/15 (?) Probably daughter of wife from previous marriage., 1 female 15-20, 1 female 40/50 (Pricilla.10) Jarvis Jones died in 1837 in Guilford County, North Carolina.4 A record of Jarvis Jones' estate sale listing the "Widdow" getting her third ($16.21), Rebecca Jones (daughter) her third ($16.21) and Lydia Bailey (daughter) her third ($16.21) was made in 1837. The actual summarization of proceeds and payments in which Rebecca, daughter, is called Jones and Lydia, daughter, is called Bailey, is dated 20 Jun 1839.11
