ChartsSome Descendants of Uriah Pratt and Elizabeth Wolfe
Last Edited22 Apr 2021
Uriah was born circa 1789, possibly in Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire, England. His marriage certificate to Elizabeth Wolfe indicated that he was OTP.1
On 5 March 1810Uriah married Elizabeth Wolfe, daughter of Ambrose Wolfe and Sarah Wright, at Parish of March, Cambridgeshire; On their marriage registration he was recorded as Uriah of Wisbeach St. Marys otp, Whit: Rebecca Judd and Thomas Jervis.2,1,3 Uriah Pratt witnessed the baptism of son Ambrose Wolfe Pratt Sr. on 30 May 1816 at Parish of March, Cambridgeshire, England.4
Uriah Pratt died circa 20 September 1828 at March, Cambridgeshire, England; Uriah's wife, Elizabeth, fallowed him in death in late December of that year leaving their surviving children orphaned. It appears that only the boys (Ambrose, Uriah and William) survived?5 He was buried on 24 September 1828 at St Wendreda, March, Cambridgeshire, England; The burial report included the fallowing laborer, married man, age 39.6
The Uriah Pratt's of the Wisbech/March/Leverington area of Cambridgeshire were likely interrelated. In England, the given name of "Uriah" for the sir name "PRATT" in the early 19th century seems to have been relatively uncommon. For instance, A general search for Uriah Pratt at Ancestry.com returns only 4 Uriah Pratt's on the 1841 census for the whole of England. Only 2 are returned for the whole of any English census after that. Additionally, almost all of the Uriah Pratt's appearing in official records from England, come from the Fens of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. Therefore, it seems plausible that they might descend from a common origin. For that reason, while without specific connection's, our database contains information from Pratt families which utilized the given name "Uriah" and which resided in the Fens of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire during the late 18th and the early 19th centuries. Records online before 1841 are limited but there is a list of Persons residing in the parish of Leverington, just north of Wisbech, form the year 1798. The list includes just 4 Patt's. Charles (a Butcher), Uriah (a Butcher), a Widow (servant) and William (a farmer). This Uriah was lited on his mairrage record as specifically from Wisbech St. Mary!7
