Ober died on 17 December 1861 at Stockton, San Joaquin County, California; DIED -- in this city, on Tuesday, 17th inst., Dr. Cyrus H. OBER, in the 53d year of his age. [The funeral of the deceased will take place today from the residence of Wm. H. GEDDES, in this city. The remains will be conveyed hence to Woodbridge, where they will be taken in charge by the Masonic fraternity of that place and interred. The friends of the deceased are invited to attend.] "DEATH FROM ACCIDENTAL POISONING -- Dr. Cyrus H. OBER, who died in this city at 2p.m. yesterday, met he death in the following manner: On Wednesday morning, the 11th, having returned to his office from a professional visit before daylight, he took from his table a bottle which he supposed to contain wine, but which really contained a mixture of corrosive sublimate. The draught which he took contained some 15 grains of the poison, which was quite enough to have caused his death in a few hours; but the stomach pump was applied half an hour afterward and all the contents of the stomach ejected. Still the corrosion had taken fatal hold, and as was predicted by his physician, he died within a week after taking the poison. Deceased was aged 52 years, 6 months, and had been a resident of the county for several years. His remains will be taken from the residence of Wm. H. GEDDES at 10a.m. today and conveyed to Woodbridge, where the Masonic Fraternity will take charge of and bury them. The friends of deceased are respectfully invited to attend the funeral."8 The relationship between Cyrus and Isaac certainly is not conclusive. That they are brother is based mostly on circumstantial evidence including their age, Pennsylvania birth, there migration to Iowa(Des Moines County), El Dorado County, California and their ultimate destination of Stockton, California. Their actual relationship may well require DNA investigations to establish conclusive proof.9
