In 1915, he married Miss Bernice Halley of LaPlata, MD, who bore him a daughter, Catherine Draper, born November 10, 1916. He and his two wives are buried in the Carter Family Cemetery at Nomini Hall".⁴

Armstrong of 23 U street northeast, a railway postal clerk for more than thirty years in the employ of the Southern Railway Company, was fatally injured Thursday in Charlottesville, Va. He was struck by a shifting engine in the Union station in that city, dying in several hours. The body was brought to the family home here yesterday. Interment will be at Woodville, Va. -

The house was built on 1/4 of an acre deeded from the Montgomery Blair estate. They left Silver Spring for Washington D.C. in 1907. Luther was a Postal Clerk for most of his life and although he never had a music lesson, he enjoyed playing the "fiddle" and could make music on a variety of musical instruments.¹²

     George Alvey Smith was born in May 1855 at Wisconsin.^1,3,4 He was the son of Thomas J Smith and Nancy Lavina (?)² George Alvey Smith was included in the census of His parents, Thomas and Lavina Smith, on 25 July 1860 at Beetown, Grant County, Wisconsin.² Avery, his wife and child, appeared on the State Census of 1 June 1875 in Beetown, Grant County, Wisconsin.⁵ He married Mary A. That this George smith is in actually the Alvey Smith that married Mary McCamish is based on both State and Federal census data. For instance, the 1900 U.S. census list George C. and Mary Oscar and Oliver Smith in Cassville, Grant County. The 1905 Wisconsin State lists Alvey, Mary, Oscar and Oliver Smith in Beetown, Grant County, Wiscons. Certainly the same Family. He is listed as George A Smith on the 1875 Wisconsin State Census. The 1880 U.S. Census list them as Geo. A. and Mary A. and daughter Alvaretta Smith. On the 1910 U.S. Census he is "Al" Smith.¹⁰

     Menzo Mattice was born on 2 May 1855 at West Berne, New York.^1,2 He was the son of John Joseph Mattice and Emeline (?)¹ Menzo Mattice was recorded in the census of Milbury (Millbery) Mattice and Catherine "Caty" King on 24 July 1860 at Knox, Albany County, New York.¹ Menzo Mattice was included in the census of Emeline (?) on 5 June 1880 at Albany, Albany County, New York.³ Menzo Mattice married Fannie S.      Benjamin Franklin Brown was born on 11 May 1855 at "Lee Hall", Westmoreland County, Virginia.¹ He was the son of Col. Thomas Brown and Sarah Lee Cox.¹ Benjamin Franklin Brown was included in the census of his parents on 24 August 1860 at Eastern District, Westmoreland County, Virginia.² He was included in the census of Col. Thomas Brown and Sarah Lee Cox on 22 July 1870 at Cople, Virginia.³ Benjamin Franklin Brown married Eliza "Lillie" Bland Murphy on 10 May 1886 at Baltimore, Maryland.¹ Frank and Lillie Brown appeared on the census of 4 June 1900 in Cople, Westomoreland County, Virginia.⁴ Frank and Eliza also appeared on the census of 9 May 1910 in Cople, Westmoreland County, Virginia.⁵ Benjamin Franklin Brown died on 29 September 1913 at Westmoreland County, Virginia, at age 58.¹

     Henry Lankford Warfield was born on 11 May 1855.¹ He was the son of Henry T Warfield and America Mahala Terrell.² Henry Lankford Warfield married America Elliott, daughter of James Berry Elliott and Sarah Hammons, on 13 December 1873 at Kentucky.¹ Henry Lankford Warfield and America Elliott appeared on the census of 5 June 1880 in Indiana Creek, Knox County, Kentucky.³ Henry Lankford Warfield died on 19 October 1882 at age 27.¹

     Cynthia Housley was born on 18 May 1855.¹ She married Andrew Jackson Bonebright, son of John Bonebright and Sarah Rebecca Roberts, on 14 November 1904 at Jackson, Tennessee.¹ Cynthia Housley died on 3 May 1951 at age 95.¹

     Leora Cordelia Brown was born in June 1855 at Benton Ridge, Handock County, Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of Richard Brown and Sarah Ann McCammon.¹ Leora Cordelia Brown was included in the census of step-fatherand mother , Abraham and Sarah Castle, on 7 August 1860 at Union, Hancock County, Ohio.² She also was included in the census of step-father and mother on 25 June 1870 at Liberty, Hancock County.³ Leora married her step-father Abraham Cassel on 12 September 1874 at Orange, Hancock County, Ohio.^1,4 A Widowed Leora C. Cassel appeared on the census of 12 June 1900 in Pleasant, Hancock County, Ohio; This Census included niece, Sarah Bech, born Oct 1891.⁵ Leora Cordelia Brown died on 4 January 1916 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, at age 60; This death date is from a Pension Pay Card for Leora Cassel at the time of her death.^1,6

     Sarah "Sallie" Allen was born in June 1855 at Virginia.^4,2 Sallie married Alexander Steele, son of Shadrach Shade Steele and Martha Elizabeth Blankenship, circa 1875 at Tazewell County, Virginia.¹ Alex and Sarah Steele appeared on the census of 3 June 1880 in Maiden Spring, Tazewell County, Virginia.⁴ They appeared on the census of 2 June 1900 also in Maiden Spring, Tazewell County.⁵ A widowed Sarah appeared on the census of 18 April 1910 in Maiden Spring, Tazewell County, Virginia.⁶

     Dearman William Jones was also known as Dean W.      Cora Caraway was born on 3 August 1855 at Anson County, North Carolina.¹ She married John Calvin McLauchlin, son of Duncan McLauchlin and Catherine McLauchlin, before 1897 at Anson County, North Carolina.¹ Cora Caraway died on 24 January 1919 at Wadesboro, Anson Conty, North Carolina, at age 63.¹

     Lafayette Fleener was born on 7 November 1855 at Louisville, Clay County, Illinois.¹ He was the son of Jacob Fleener and Mary (?)² Lafayette Fleener married Emma May Henderson, daughter of Leven E. Henderson and Martha Jane McCollum, on 1 March 1893.¹ A widower Lafayette Fleener appeared on the of his brother Benjamin for the census of 4 June 1900 in Hoosier, Clay County, Illinois.³ He died on 17 January 1948 at Clay County, Illinois, at age 92.¹

     Nellie Foster Vandegrift was also known as Nellie Foster Van de Grift.² She was born on 24 November 1855 at Indianopolis, Marion County, Indiana.^1,2 She was the daughter of Jacob Vandegrift and Esther (?)³ Nellie married Adalpho Sanchez, son of Gil Sanchez and Concepcion (?), on 12 September 1880 at Monterey, Monterey County, California.² Nellie Sanchez appeared on the census of 23 June 1900 in Monterey, Monterey County, California.⁴ Nellie appeared as a widowed head of household on the census of 15 April 1910 in Berkely, Alameda County, Califronia.⁵ Nellie Foster Vandegrift appeared on the census of 9 January 1920 in Berkeley, Alameda County, California.⁶ She, a historical writer, was included in the census of her son, Louis Adalfo Sanchez and Zora "Zoe" Lambert on 10 April 1930 at Oakland, Alameda County, Califronia.¹ Nellie Foster Vandegrift died on 4 January 1935 at Oakland, Alameda County, Califronia, at age 79.^1,2
