He grew up in Denver, graduating from Regis High School in 1953, then attended Dartmouth College for two years, where he joined Psi Upsilon fraternity and participated in the Navy ROTC. Recognizing his all-star baseball pitching talent in high school, big league scouts from the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Pittsburg Pirates approached him. A favorite baseball memory while on the Yankees farm team was striking out Billy Martin. John then spent two years in the Saint Thomas Seminary in Denver. He met and married Ann Heckendorf in Littleton, Colo. where they made their first home. He graduated from Regis College and later received his Master's and Doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Denver with a focus on child development. As an Associate Professor at the University of Northern Colorado, he started the New Nursery School, the precursor to the nationally recognized Head Start program. He also developed the crib enrichment items that led to the development of the BusyBox sold by Creative Playthings. He consulted with President Kennedy's committee on Mental Retardation. In 1965, his involvement in the creation of the national Head Start program led to an appointment to President Johnson's Head Start Professional Advisory Committee, where he was a federal reviewer for the program. In the late 1960's, he spearheaded the Rocky Mountain Educational Laboratory and became the national chairperson for the Early Childhood Consortium and simultaneously founded a private non-profit Psychological Educational Research Institute (PERI). PERI continues to function as a 501c3 corporation today, run by his three daughters. His interests and experience led to a 1969 appointment as Director of the John F. Kennedy Child Development Center for service, training and research on developmental disabilities. Here he continued to work with Head Start, especially the developmentally disabled and disadvantaged children and their families. He also served as a part time Vice President of Education for the Hasbro Toy Corporation. In 1974, he was nominated by the Ford administration to the position of Director of the U.S. Office of Child Development and Chief of the U.S. Children's Bureau. After a lengthy background check, he took office with a GS-18 supergrade level of clearance. While there, he influenced and helped create significant legislation, including writing sections of the Education for All Handicapped Law. After 18 months of service, he left Washington for Southern California to become the first Executive Director and then the Director of Research and Development for ChildHelp USA, a national program addressing the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. He did pro-bono consultation and evaluations for the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department. The pro-bono work evolved to a position as the Director for the disabilities division in a large Head Start Program for them. After nearly 50 years of rewarding work, Meier retired from formal gainful employment, focusing his talent on his golf handicap and family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, ANN, dog Beau, and three daughters, Rebecca (Meier) & Art Santos, Rita (Meier) & Michael Hemsley and Rhonda Meier (the "3RS"), and three granddaughters, Breanna, Amelia, & Mikayla Hemsley".²

(Stukas) Bell. On August 20, 1955 in Alverno, Clayton married Della F. Pratt who preceded him in death on May 14, 2004. Clayton worked at General Motors in Pontiac for 14 years and in 1981 moved to Cheboygan where he farmed. He enjoyed tinkering with small engines, fishing, deer hunting, vegetable gardening, tending to his flowers and was always willing to help out anyone who needed it. They had two sons. Bob was a devoted and loving family man. Bob was an avid fly-fisherman, golfer, tennis and poker player. He was a fine artist, and he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and traveling the world. Later in life, Bob met "his Maria", and they shared a love for the Tulsa cultural scene and travel. Maria's family added much affection and fun to his last years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Adkison.¹

NEW IBERIA – Janis “Gaye” Jacobson Billman, age 82, died peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2021. She was born on February 11, 1939 in Fargo, North Dakota and was the only daughter of Arthur and Vee Jacobson.

Janis, better known as “Gaye”, was a devoted wife and mother who; as the daughter of a National Park Ranger; loved to share the stories of her incredible adventures growing up in Yellowstone National Park. She will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Gaye is survived by her husband, Wesley Rayman Billman; daughter, Alicia Billman Kraemer; son, US Army Major Rayman Henry Billman; grandchildren, Ashlea Dupre, Amber Couch, Olivia Goodwin, Claire Redfield, Simon Billman, Aden Powers, and Greenlee Billman; and numerous great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

     Richard "Dick" Frantz married Vanda Schultze.³ Richard "Dick" Frantz was born on 11 March 1939 at Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.^1,3 He was the son of Harold W. Frantz and Dorothy L Ayres.¹ Richard "Dick" Frantz died on 16 October 2012 at Kansas City, Missouri, at age 73.³

     Anita Claire Cramer is the daughter of Harold Davidson Cramer and Mabel Claire "Aunt Claire" Burke.²

     Macon Dean Brown married Penelope McGuire, daughter of Edward Louis McGuire and Dorthy Rita Moriarty.² Macon Dean Brown was born on 24 August 1939 at Virginia.^1,2 He was the son of St Clair N Brown and Frances Louise Pugh.¹ Macon Dean Brown died on 19 June 1986 at Salem, Roanoke County, Virginia, at age 46.²

     Jesse Robert Pratt is the son of Jesse Burtine Pratt and Lucille Hawkins.¹

     Annette Akiko Sakaguchi was born on 20 October 1939 at Santa Clara County, California.¹ She was the daughter of Shigejiro Sakaguchi and Tomiko Alice Aoyagi.² Annette Akiko Sakaguchi married Gary Haruo Kurotsuchi, son of Frank Kurotsuchi and Kimiye Inouye, circa 1962.¹ Annette Akiko Sakaguchi died on 11 November 2020 at Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California, at age 81.¹

     Carl Dale Thomas is the son of Carl Victor Thomas and Izetta L Plummer.¹

     Evana Faye Wyatt married Arless Grant.² Evana Faye Wyatt married Troy Carroll.² Evana Faye Wyatt was born on 17 December 1939 at Kentucky.^1,2 She was the daughter of Lawrence M Wyatt and Estill/Estel P Widner.¹ Evana Faye Wyatt died on 6 March 2013 at Canton, North Carolina, at age 73; From a News Journal (Corbin, KY): "She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Wyatt and Estel Widner; first husband, Arless Grant; and stepson, Ray Grant. -

     Paul Melvin Collier is the son of Arthur W Collier and Lenore Evelyn Donhost.¹

     David Russell Walker is the son of Marion Russell Walker and Dorothy Eugenia Burke.^2,1
