     John Cantrell Bynum was born on 26 August 1916 at Stewartsville, DeKalb County, Missouri.1 He was the son of John C Bynum and Minnie McWilliams.2 John Cantrell Bynum appeared on the census of his parents, John and Minnie Bynum, of 15 January 1920 in Lafayette, Clinton County, Missouri.3 He married Virginia Doris Solari, daughter of John B. Solari and Amy Eudora Jones, on 26 March 1938 at San Joaquin County, California.1,2 John Cantrell Bynum and Virginia Doris Solari appeared on the census of 3 May 1940 in Sonora, Tuolumne County, California.2 John Cantrell Bynum was listed on a U.S. World War II Army Enlistement Reocrd on 10 February 1943 at Sacramento County, California.4 He died on 14 June 1998 at Sonora, Tuolumne County, California, at age 81; Posted at Find-A-Grave: "Union Democrat, 16 June 1997, p2c1 - JOHN C 'JAY" BYNUM JR - Aug 26, 1916 - June 14, 1997 - John C "Jay" Bynum Jr, a long time Tuolumne County resident and 40 year employee of PG&E, died Saturday at his home in Sonora after a long illness. - Mr Bynum, a native of Stewartsville, Mo., moved to Sonora as a young man and graduated from Sonora High School in 1934. He started work for PG&E in 1937 as a maintenance man at Camp Nine and was later transferred to the water service, where he worked dun til being drafted into the Army in 1942. During WWII Mr Bynum served as staff sergeant with the 91st infantry in Africa and Italy. After the war he returned to work for PG&E and retired in 1977 as a subforeman. - Mr Bynum was active with little League in Tuolumne County and was one of the first men to coach the newly formed league in the 1960's. He also enjoyed RV traveling and fishing and was a member of the Sonora Els Lodge No 1587. - Mr Bynum is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Bynum of Sonora, and a daughter-in-law, Brent Bynum of Modesto and Barry and Diane Bynum of Sonora, a grandson Eli Bynum of Modesto, a nephew Clifford Agenstein of Missourim a cousin, Ruth Silva of Los Banos and numerous gret nieces and great nephews. - At his request, no services are planned. Cremation will take place and the ashes inurned at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Sonora. - Contributor: Anne Shurtleff Stevens (46947920.)1"
