The Sedgwick Pantagraph. Sedgwick, Kansas. 13 Dec. 1894, Thu. In the Caldwell News we find the following obituary of Jarvis Jones, Sr., who died in that city December 2. Jarvis Jones was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, January 19, 1821. His parents moved to Henry county, Indiana in 1829, where he grew to manhood. He was married in 1846 to Lucinda Palin, who died 1888. Two daughters and seven sons were born to them. Six sons are now living. He removed to Kansas with wife and four sons in 1878, and came to this city to reside two years ago. He united with the protestant church thirty-five years ago and has lived a consistent life ever since, being a firm believer in the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.
He was a sincere christian gentleman, an upright citizen and respected by all our people. He attended the revival service at the opera house last Sunday night in his usual health and retired to his room where he slept. In the morning he was found dead in bed, having died after 1 o’clock., as one of his sons left him at that hour to go on the railroad. He died peacefully, as no struggle was evident, the covers not being disturbed.
The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. J.A.B. Oglevee, after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. Four of the six sons living were present. D.W.Jones and wife, Medford, J.W.Jones, wife and daughter, Kansas City, J.O.Jones, of Caldwell. It was impossible for the rest of the children to be present.2,8
