A member of the old Baltimore Comic Opera Company, Mrs. Pendleton performed in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in the 1960s and 1970s. After living in Roland Park for many years, she moved to Washington Hill in East Baltimore. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. May 23 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 4700 Roland Avenue, where she was a member. Survivors include two sons, Townsend Scott Pendleton of Bowie and Alfred Patterson Pendleton III of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mary L. "Mimi" Parvis of Baltimore; a sister, Leticia S. "Patsy" Haxall of Oceanside, Calif; and six grandchildren. Her 1948 marriage to Alfred Patterson Pendleton Jr. ended in divorce."

With sadness, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former BIOS Trustee and Life Trustee, Mr. Harvey Eugene (Gene) Lehman.

Gene and his wife first became involved in the then Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) in 1960 when they traveled to BBSR for their own research projects. He was elected a member of the corporation in 1961, became a trustee in 1962 and served until 1983. As a distinguished scientist and teacher from the Department of Zoology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Gene taught experimental embryology and other summer courses at BBSR for many years and initiated the daily ‘reef watch’ tradition, a favorite amongst his students. In 1985 a BBSR endowed scholarship was established in his honor for graduate students and to date has benefitted over 30 students with grant-in-aid support.⁶

     Betty Ruth Urmey was born on 26 October 1919 at Ferndale, Michigan.^1,2 She was the daughter of Harry Eugene Urmey and Mary Agnes Montross.¹ She was recorded in the census of her parents, Harry Eugene Urmey and Mary Agnes Montross, on 16 April 1930 at Ferndale, Oakland County, Michigan.³ She married Stephen Kocsis, son of Stephen Kocsis and Mary Kutz, on 17 April 1939 at Michigan.⁴ She and Stephen appeared on the census of 16 April 1940 in Ferndale, Oakland County, Michigan.⁵ On 10 April 1944 Betty and Stephen were divorced.⁶ Betty married for a second time to Louis Francis Van Amburgh, son of Frank Van Amburgh and Alice Fagan, on 3 March 1947 at Toledo, Ohio.⁴ Betty Ruth Urmey died on 9 June 2010 at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York, at age 90; Copied from her Obituary "the daughter of Henry and Mary Montross Urmey . On March 3, 1947 in Toledo, OH. Betty married Louis F. VanAmburgh. Mr VanAmburgh predeceased her on January 24, 2003. Mrs. VanAmburgh was employed by Fitchett Bros. Dairy as a secretary. She is survived by her 3 children; Betty Ann Castellano of Montgomery, NY, Stephen VanAmburgh of Sweet Home, OR., and Louis VanAmburgh of Pleasant Valley; 15 grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren.      Earl Ivan Yocum is the son of Charles I Yocum and Helen Louise Sliter.¹

     Alan Ray Vette was born on 11 November 1919 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.¹ He was the son of Ira Vette and Alma Julia Ishmael.¹ Alan Ray Vette was included in the census of Ira Vette and Alma Julia Ishmael on 15 April 1930 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.² Alan Ray Vette began military service on 13 January 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.¹ He married Essie Lee (?) circa 1966.¹ Alan Ray Vette ended military service in 1975 at Patrick Air Froce Base, Cocoa Beach, Florida. Col. Vette "flew as an enlisted pilot until 1945 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Colonel Vette held staff and command positions in Military Airlift Command, Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service and Air Training Command. He retired from Patrick Air Force Base in 1975 where he served as the Director of Manned Space Flight Support Office. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force for 33 years. He was a command pilot with over 8,000 flying hours and was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College. He served with distinction in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Among his numerous awards and decorations are the Silver Star, Joint Service Commendation, Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Exceptional Service Medal. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was credited with 101 combat rescue missions as Commander of the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron".¹ He died on 2 September 2013 at Florada at age 93; From his Obituary: 1) "Col. Vette was born November 11, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to Ira C. Vette and Alma Ishmael Vette Jenness."¹

     Roy Lee Holland was born on 16 November 1919 at Paducah, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of Roy L Holland and Lela Irene (?)² Roy was included in the census of his parents on 7 January 1920 at Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.³ Roy Lee Holland witnessed the census of Roy L Holland and Lela Irene (?) on 25 April 1930 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.² Roy was was also included in the census of his parents on 16 April 1940 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.⁴ Roy Lee Holland died on 31 March 1989 at Dearborn, Wayne County, Michigan, at age 69.⁵

     Verne Walter Perry was born on 28 November 1919 at Jackson County, Missouri.¹ He was the son of Vern Webb Perry and Orine Frances Spainhower.¹ Verne Walter Perry was included in the census of Orine Frances Spainhower on 26 April 1930 at Sni-A-Bar, Jackson County, Missouri; This census included her brother-in-law Roe Perry.² Verne Walter Perry married Dorothy Louise (?) at Missouri.³ Verne Walter Perry appeared on the census of 5 April 1940 in Sni-A-Bar, Jackson County, Missouri; This census included Vern's uncle Roe.³ He began military service on 22 March 1943 at Missouri.⁴ He died on 23 January 1945 at Belgium at age 25; Posted at Find-A-Grave: "The following information was provided by contributor "pjammetjr": Killed in Action, Grand Bois area, Belgium". "The dates given for the Battle of the Bulge which occurred in Belgium were from Dec. 16, 1944 to Jan. 25, 1945. If the date given for Walter's death is correct he died two days before the end of the battle".¹ He Vern's mother applied for an military head stone listing Lynn Owings as consignee. His milatary service was lited as the 75 Infantry 290- 1st Army. on 6 June 1948 at Oak Grove, missouri.⁴

     Irvin Jans is the son of Julius H. Jans and Dorothy Lamp.²

     Nancy Pleasants McLernon was also known as Nancy Pleasants.³ She was born on 19 December 1919 at Tampico, Mexico.^1,4 She was the daughter of George Justin McLeron and Marjorie Pleasants Armstrong.¹ Nancy Pleasants McLernon was recorded in the census of George Justin McLeron and Marjorie Pleasants Armstrong on 10 May 1930 at San Antonio, Texas.¹ Nancy Pleasants McLernon was included in the census of George Justin McLeron and Marjorie Pleasants Armstrong on 15 April 1940 at Alamo Heights, Bexar County.⁵ Nancy Pleasants McLernon married William Payne Francisco Jr, son of William Francisco and Matilda Dickenson, circa 1943; Birth Index for Bexar County.³ Nancy Pleasants McLernon died on 26 July 2008 at Bexar County, Texas, at age 88.⁴

     Lucy Starnes was born on 10 January 1920 at Virginia.^1,2 She was the daughter of Miligan E Starnes and Elazabeth "Lizzie" Hannah Culbertson.¹ Lucy Starnes married Robert Blairie Flanary, son of Martin Beuraguard Flanary and Callie Victoria Cox, circa 1935.² Lucy Starnes died on 22 January 2011 at Stoney Creek, Scott County, Virginia, at age 91; From an obituary posted at Find-A-Grave: "Mrs. Lucy Flanary, 91, Stoney Creek community of Scott County, VA passed away, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at her residence.      Grace Frances Coburn was born on 19 January 1920 at Brooklyn, New York.¹ She was the daughter of Robert John Coburn and Grace Marrie Farrow.¹ Grace Frances Coburn appeared on the census of 18 April 1930 in St. Mary's Orphanage, Washington, Alameda County, California; Page 2.^2,1 Grace was included in the census of her mother and Stepfather, Byron H.      Janet Margaret Burke was born on 12 February 1920 at Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California.² She was the daughter of Harry Eugene Burke Sr. and Marion Josephine Armstrong. Janet was recorded in the household during the census of her parents, Harry Eugene Burke Sr. and Marion Josephine Armstrong, on 16 April 1930 at 1551 Emmerson, Palo Alto, California.¹ Janet was also included in the census of her parents on 3 May 1940 at Redwood Township (Los Gatos), California.³ Janet served as a Lab.      Marjorie Laverne Robertson was born on 9 March 1920 at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana.² She was the daughter of Albert Robertson and Lillie Thurston.² Marjorie Laverne Robertson married Robert W. Donhost, son of Albert J Donhost and Cora E.      Elden Blase was born on 11 March 1920 at South Dakota.^1,2 He was the son of Frank R. Blase and Clara Unzelman.¹ Elden Blase was included in the census of Frank R.      Mary Catherine Armstrong was born on 21 March 1920 at Tampico, Mexico. The 1930 Census of her parents indicates that she was born in Texas.³ She was the daughter of John Fisher Armstrong and Anna C. Copeland.¹ She was listed in the census of her parents, John Fisher Armstrong and Anna C. Copeland, on 22 April 1930 at Alamo Heights, Bexar County, Texas.¹ She was also included in the census of her parents on 6 April 1940 at Alamo Heights.⁴ Mary married Campbell Henderson Gould, son of William Harold Gould and Edith Christie (?), on 16 August 1940 at Miami, Florida.^5,2 Mary Catherine Armstrong married Rafael Joseffy, son of Carl Ludwig Joseffy and Tabitha Jane Weller, on 2 January 1946 at San Antonio, Texas.^5,2 She died on 17 August 2008 at Gillespie County, Texas, at age 88.⁶

     James Howard Morehead married Katherine Hill, daughter of Thomas Everette Hill and Effie A Cecil.¹ James Howard Morehead was born on 21 March 1920 at Virginia.¹ He was the son of Charles Lee Morehead and Dora May Walker.¹ James Howard Morehead died on 20 March 2005 at Pearisburg, Virginia, at age 84; From the Roanoke Times obituary: "James H. Morehead, 84, of Peterstown, W.Va., passed away Sunday March 20, 2005 at the home of his daughter in Pearisburg, Va. Born March 21, 1920 at Round Bottom, Va., he was the son of the late Charles L. and Dora M. Walker Morehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers. Mr. Morehead was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp., a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the VFW Post 6000 Narrows, Va. and a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Hill Morehead; one son, Charles E. Morehead and wife, Brenda of Peterstown, W.Va; one daughter, Judy M. Rogers and husband, Jeff of Pearisburg, Va; one brother, Charles L. Morehead of Millville, Del; three grandsons, Rodney Morehead, Kevin and Derek Rogers; and one great-grandson, Thomas Morehead.¹"

     Clona Black was born on 5 April 1920 at Kentucky.^1,2 She was the daughter of Mitchel Black and Lissie Howard.² Clona Black married Lonnie Flanery, son of Rufus Henry Flanery and Mima J Stafford, after 1936 at Kentucky.¹ Living next to his brother Jim, Lonnie and Clona Flannery appeared on the census of 15 April 1940 in Morehead, Rowan County, Kentucky.¹ Clona Black died on 16 November 1992 at Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, at age 72.²

     Fred "Boz" Herr Jr was born on 13 April 1920.¹ He was the son of Fred Herr and Frieda H. Albrecht.¹ Fred "Boz" Herr Jr was included in the census of Fred Herr and Frieda H. Albrecht on 2 April 1930 at Chicago, Illinois.³ Fred "Boz" Herr Jr began military service in 1940; U.S. Army.¹ He was included in the census of Fred Herr and Frieda H. Albrecht on 10 April 1940 at Chicago.⁴ Fred "Boz" Herr Jr married Thelma Slack, daughter of Harry L.
