Pendleton, a retired city schools guidance counselor, died of heart disease April 26 at St. Joseph Medical Center. A resident of the Edenwald retirement community in Towson, she was 82. Born Nancy Tyson Lee Scott in Baltimore and raised on a northern Baltimore County farm, she was a 1943 graduate of Bryn Mawr School and that year made her debut at the Bachelors Cotillon. After attending Bryn Mawr College, she earned a master's degree in psychology from what is now Towson University. She also had a master's degree in guidance counseling from Loyola College. She was a guidance counselor at city schools and retired from Lake Clifton High School in 1990. She then traveled extensively. A member of the old Baltimore Comic Opera Company, Mrs. Pendleton performed in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in the 1960s and 1970s. After living in Roland Park for many years, she moved to Washington Hill in East Baltimore. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. May 23 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 4700 Roland Avenue, where she was a member. Survivors include two sons, Townsend Scott Pendleton of Bowie and Alfred Patterson Pendleton III of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mary L. "Mimi" Parvis of Baltimore; a sister, Leticia S. "Patsy" Haxall of Oceanside, Calif; and six grandchildren. Her 1948 marriage to Alfred Patterson Pendleton Jr. ended in divorce."

With sadness, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former BIOS Trustee and Life Trustee, Mr. Harvey Eugene (Gene) Lehman.

Gene and his wife first became involved in the then Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) in 1960 when they traveled to BBSR for their own research projects. He was elected a member of the corporation in 1961, became a trustee in 1962 and served until 1983. As a distinguished scientist and teacher from the Department of Zoology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Gene taught experimental embryology and other summer courses at BBSR for many years and initiated the daily ‘reef watch’ tradition, a favorite amongst his students. In 1985 a BBSR endowed scholarship was established in his honor for graduate students and to date has benefitted over 30 students with grant-in-aid support.6

     Alan Ray Vette was born on 11 November 1919 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Ira Vette and Alma Julia Ishmael.1 Alan Ray Vette was included in the census of Ira Vette and Alma Julia Ishmael on 15 April 1930 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.2 Alan Ray Vette began military service on 13 January 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.1 He married Essie Lee (?) circa 1966.1 Alan Ray Vette ended military service in 1975 at Patrick Air Froce Base, Cocoa Beach, Florida. Col. Vette "flew as an enlisted pilot until 1945 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Colonel Vette held staff and command positions in Military Airlift Command, Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service and Air Training Command. He retired from Patrick Air Force Base in 1975 where he served as the Director of Manned Space Flight Support Office. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force for 33 years. He was a command pilot with over 8,000 flying hours and was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College. He served with distinction in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Among his numerous awards and decorations are the Silver Star, Joint Service Commendation, Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Exceptional Service Medal. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was credited with 101 combat rescue missions as Commander of the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron".1 He died on 2 September 2013 at Florada at age 93; From his Obituary: 1) "Col. Vette was born November 11, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to Ira C. Vette and Alma Ishmael Vette Jenness."1

"The dates given for the Battle of the Bulge which occurred in Belgium were from Dec. 16, 1944 to Jan. 25, 1945. If the date given for Walter's death is correct he died two days before the end of the battle".1 He Vern's mother applied for an military head stone listing Lynn Owings as consignee. His milatary service was lited as the 75 Infantry 290- 1st Army. on 6 June 1948 at Oak Grove, missouri.4

The 1930 Census of her parents indicates that she was born in Texas.3 She was the daughter of John Fisher Armstrong and Anna C. Copeland.1 She was listed in the census of her parents, John Fisher Armstrong and Anna C. Copeland, on 22 April 1930 at Alamo Heights, Bexar County, Texas.1 She was also included in the census of her parents on 6 April 1940 at Alamo Heights.4 Mary married Campbell Henderson Gould, son of William Harold Gould and Edith Christie (?), on 16 August 1940 at Miami, Florida.5,2 Mary Catherine Armstrong married Rafael Joseffy, son of Carl Ludwig Joseffy and Tabitha Jane Weller, on 2 January 1946 at San Antonio, Texas.5,2 She died on 17 August 2008 at Gillespie County, Texas, at age 88.6

     James Howard Morehead married Katherine Hill, daughter of Thomas Everette Hill and Effie A Cecil.1 James Howard Morehead was born on 21 March 1920 at Virginia.1 He was the son of Charles Lee Morehead and Dora May Walker.1 James Howard Morehead died on 20 March 2005 at Pearisburg, Virginia, at age 84; From the Roanoke Times obituary: "James H. Morehead, 84, of Peterstown, W.Va., passed away Sunday March 20, 2005 at the home of his daughter in Pearisburg, Va. Born March 21, 1920 at Round Bottom, Va., he was the son of the late Charles L. and Dora M. Walker Morehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers. Mr. Morehead was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp., a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the VFW Post 6000 Narrows, Va. and a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Hill Morehead; one son, Charles E. Morehead and wife, Brenda of Peterstown, W.Va; one daughter, Judy M. Albrecht on 10 April 1940 at Chicago.4 Fred "Boz" Herr Jr married Thelma Slack, daughter of Harry L. Slack and Nettie (?), on 31 December 1941 at DuBuque, Iowa.1 Fred "Boz" Herr Jr ended military service in 1945; U.S. Army.1 As of 1981, the address of Fred "Boz" Herr Jr was 5224 Co.
