He and His wife Juanita H., celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last week. She is a former Eldorado County superintendant of schools. Mr. Emmerson was a rancher and refrigeration engineer and was a veteran of WWI. He was a life membor of American Legion Post 119 and the El Dorado Masonic Lodge Free and Accepted Masons No. 26. both in Placerville. In addition to his wife, Mr. Emmerson is survived by three sons, Vernon of San Francisco, John of Rowland Heights and Leight G. of Ramona; daughter Zella Miller of Placerville; eight grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren

     Ira Vette was born on 5 November 1897 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.1,2 He was the son of Charles William Vette and Minna Herzberg.2 Ira Vette married Alma Julia Ishmael, daughter of Lorenzo Dow Ishmael and Mary A. (?).1,3,4 Ira Vette was recorded on a World War I Draft Registration Card, on 12 September 1918 at St Louis, Missouri.4 He and Alma Julia Ishmael appeared on the census of 15 April 1930 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.5 Ira Vette began military service on 13 January 1942 at Camp Shelby, Millissippi; He flew as an enlisted pilot until 1945 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Colonel Vette held staff and command positions in Military Airlift Command, Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service and Air Training Command.3 He ended military service in 1975 at Patrick Airforce Base, Cocoa Beach, Florida; His career included serving as the Director of Manned Space Flight Support Office. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force for 33 years. He was a command pilot with over 8,000 flying hours and was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College. He served with distinction in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Among his numerous awards and decorations are the Silver Star, Joint Service Commendation, Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Exceptional Service Medal. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was credited with 101 combat rescue missions as Commander of the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron.3 A widower, Ira died on 24 December 1975 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 78; From his Obituary: He is survived by his daughter, Alana Vette Haldin and her husband John of Charlotte, NC; his brother, James I. Vette of Mount Airy, MD; and many nieces and nephews.6

He operated a milk rout in Chicago for 20 years. He then moved to the Meehan area and farmed a few years. He operated a grocery store on South Church Street here for several years and a grocery store in Roshold for two years. Later he worked at Joerns Furniture Co. Inc. for five years, retiring in 1963. He was married to Frieda Albright in Chicago in 1919. She died in 1965. In 1968, he was married to Frieda Rasmussen, She survives. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was active with the Stevens Point Senior Citizens. - Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Robert, 1801 Mary's Drive and Fred Jr., 5224 Highway F, town of Plover: two stepsons, Richard and Toim Rasmussen, both of Chicago; and two granchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, ghree sisters and one grandson.4,6 He was buried at Restlawn Cemetery, Wisconsin; Newar Wisconsin Rapids.4
