Burwell Wilson "Sarge" Reynolds was born on 3 January 1908. Although there doesn't seem to be a birth certificate, the family always said he was born in San Francisco.3 He was the son of Richard Reynolds and Josephine Elizabeth Ober.3
While missing from the Richard Reynolds house hold in 1910, he was recorded in the household during the census of Richard Reynolds and Josephine Elizabeth Ober on 3 January 1920 at Placerville.4
Sarge married Rosita Anne Farrell, daughter of Edward Patrick Farrell and Eliza Laura "Gram" Steele, on 8 January 1927 at Stockton, California; The marriage was blessed by the church in Auburn or Placerville, California.5
"Sarge" was a Deputy with the El Dorado County Sheriffs in the late 1920's. With the creation of the California State Highway Patrol (CHPS) on August 14, 1929, he became a traffic officer with CHPS serving for 17 years. Some of the more memorable events in his service included an all night standoff with two armed criminals which only ended when a passer by saw the light on in the garage where it was happening which then led to his rescue. Another incident he told his son-in-law was when he was assigned to the 1934 Salinas Lettuce strike and riots of 1934. The National Guard used a debilitating gas to break up the crowd. There was a wind shift and while the National Guard had gas masks, the various law enforcement officers did not. Sarge, laughing at the memory, saying that the gas caused the officers (he as well) to vomit and soil Their pants. According to Sarge, he briefly acted as driver for one of the Governor of California. Also he was the first California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer to have a two-way radio installed on his motorcycle. During his time with CHPS, he served the San Francisco Bay area including the Golden Gate Bridge. Because of sever asthma he requested to be transfered to the Truckee and Lake Tahoe region where he served the remainder of his patrol career. He achieving the rank of Sergeant, hence the name "Sarge". In 1940's he resigned from the Patrol to operate a Bar and Grill call "Sarges" in Truckee, California. After "Sarges" closed in the late 50's Sarge stayed in Truckee where he sold cars, operated an appliance store and was operating a laundromat at the time of his death.6,3
After their marriage he and Rosita, a along with their first born daughter Joyce, on the census of 7 April 1930 at Rose Avennue, Placerville, El Dorado County, California.7 Sarge and Rosita appeared on the census of 2 April 1940 in Eden (Hayward), Alameda County, California.8
In a It's A Small World moment, after meeting when their children were to be married, Joyce's father Burwell Wilson "Sarge" Reynolds and Pauls mother Marion Rebecca BurkePratt discovered that they had unknowingly attended first grade together at Placerville, El Dorado County, California.6
On 10 May 1974Sarge died at St. Mary's Hospital, Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, at age 66; Burial: Sierra Mountains Cemetery, Truckee, California.9

Marion Rebecca Burke was born on 7 June 1908 in Washington, D. C..2 She was the daughter of Harry Eugene Burke Sr. and Marion Josephine Armstrong.
Marion was included in the census of her parents, Harry and Marion Burke, on 15 April 1910 in Washington, D.C.3 She was also in the Burke household during the census on 23 January 1920 at Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California.4
After graduating from Palo Alto high school Marion attended Stanford UniversityPalo Alto graduating in June of 1930 with a degree in Journalism. While spending most of her life as a housewife and Mother, Marion did use her degree to work of a News Paper in Tracey, California in the early 1930's.5 She was still living with her parents at 1551 Emmerson, Palo Alto, California, when she appeared on the census of on 16 April 1930.1
On 19 November 1932 Marion married Norman Uriah Pratt, son of William Joseph Pratt and Amalie "Mollie" Auguste Albrecht, at Palo Alto, California; They were married in the home of Marion's Father, H.E. Burke.6 Marion and her family were included with her parents in the census on 3 May 1940 at Redwood Township (Los Gatos), California.7 Mrs Marion Pratt was included on the World War II draft card of husband Norman Uriah Pratt on 14 February 1942 at Rt 3 - Box 979, Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California.8 As of 1944, the address of Marion Rebecca Burke and Norman Uriah Pratt was RT 3 Box 97A, Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California.9 Marion Rebecca Burke witnessed the census of Harry Eugene Burke Sr. and Marion Josephine Armstrong on 15 April 1950 at Redwood Township (Los Gatos), Santa Clara County, California.10,11
In a It's A Small World moment, after meeting when their children were to be married, Joyce's father Marion Rebecca Burke and Pauls mother Burwell Wilson "Sarge" ReynoldsPratt discovered that they had unknowingly attended first grade together at Placerville, El Dorado County, California.12 In 1976, Marion Rebecca Burke migrated to at Lacey, Thurston County, Washington.12
After graduating from Stanford, Marion worked for a News Paper in Tracey, California and at Elliots Nursery in Los Gatos during WWII However, as with many women of her generation, she was mostly a homemaker, a stay at home mother, and an avid Gardner. She also enjoyed other handy work and spent untold hours weaving, knitting, doing needle point and quilting. During the Second World War she and her mother used these skills to teach weaving to disabled military personnel. She enjoyed reading and willingly did book reviews for many of the groups to which she belonged. She was an avid camper. The early years she spent in the woods with her father including three summers in Yellowstone in the early 1920's untold numbers of outings to places like Yellowstone, Yosemite, Fresno Grove. She pased that love for the outdoors to her sons including a summer or camping in Yellowstone and summers camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains leading to both sons choose careers in natural resource management. She certainly made an impression on everyone she met.13
After Normans retirement, She and Norm moved several times. They spent 10 years at Leisure Town, a retirement community in Vacaville, California. Then to be close to their son and his young family, the settled in Lacey, Washington. After Normans death, Marion moved to Fresno, California. Fresno was close to her other son Paul and had a warmer climate. She spent the last 10 plus year of her life there, making new friends and gardening at Pauls house and making weekly trips to the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains.13
Jean Marion Stafford Small was a speciel friend. The Small's and Pratt's often traveled and camped together. This included a trip to Hawaii and a girl's only tour of the British Islands in the early 1980s. Immediately after Norman Pratt's death, Marion Pratt found comfort in the company of Jean and her husband Boris. Interestingly, Jean and Marion both died at the age of 93.13
Marion Rebecca Burke died on 5 November 2001 at 5:30 pm, Hy-Lond Health & Rehab Ctr. 3408 E. Shields Ave., Fresno, California, at age 93. Interestingly, she had been ill for some time but managed to live long enough to be some what aware of the birth of her first great grandchild.14,15,16
