Elzy F. Saunders was born circa 1829 at Virginia.1 He married a Elizabeth Jane Steele, probably "Eliza Steele", daughter of Alexander Pleasant Steele and Sarah B. Dickerson, on 27 November 1850 at Jackson County, Missouri.1,2 Elzy F. Saunders and Eliza Steele appeared on the census of 16 July 1860 in Sniabar, Jackson County, Missouri.1 Elzy F. Saunders and Eliza Steele That the "Eliza" Steele and Elizabeth Jane Steele are the same person and the daughter of Alexander and Martha Steele is based on the interchangeability of Eliza and Elizabeth, Their residence in Sni-A-Bar and the 1860 next door proximity of Eliza to what would be her sister Martha who was married to Joseph William Meador. Since she and husband Elzy seem to dissapear after the 1860 census their relationship to Alexander Pleasant Steele should be considered suspect.3
