Barger and Fiana H "Fannie" Darst.1 Benjamin Darst Barger married Julia Ann Spridgen, daughter of William Spridgen and Elizabeth Limbird, in 1884 at Lucas County, Iowa.3 Benjamin Darst Barger died on 13 June 1912 at Le Roy, Decatur County, Iowa, at age 48.3 He Posted at Find-A-Grave by Robert V Darst taken from a History of Decatur County, Iowa, 1915: "Benjamin Darst Barger, who passed away in 1912 at Le Roy, was for twelve years associated with the local bank and for five years preceding his demise was the owner of the institution. Before turning his attention to banking he was engaged extensively in the stock business and he was widely known throughout the county and esteemed wherever known. His birth occurred in Rockbridge county, Virginia, April 4, 1864. His father was educated for the Presbyterian ministry but never preached, devoting his time to agricultural pursuits instead. After removing from the east he first located in Missouri but soon afterward took up his abode upon a small farm in Lucas county, Iowa, northeast of Le Roy. He was also postmaster for a number of years and held that office at the time of his death. His wife is also deceased"; "Mr. Barger was married in 1884 to Miss Julia Spridgen, whose birth occurred in Lucas county, Iowa, in 1861, and who is the daughter of William and Elizabeth Spridgen, natives of Lincolnshire, England. Her parents were married in that shire and remained there until 1851, when they emigrated to America, locating first in Ohio, whence they went to Indiana, where they resided until their removal to Lucas county, Iowa. In 1862 the father enlisted in the Union army and died while in the service, in a hospital at St. Louis. He is interred in the National cemetery of that city. His widow resided upon the farm until about four years before her demise, when she removed to Le Roy. She reached the advanced age of eighty-seven years, passing away on the 21st of April, 1913. She was a Methodist in her religious belief, as was her husband. To their union were born five children, three of whom grew to maturity, but only Mrs. Barger and a brother are now living. Mr. and Mrs. Barger became the parents of a son, Elbern, who died when about nine years of age".3

August Frederick Albrecht was born on 20 July 1863 at Flatow, Krojanke, Prussia.1,2 He was christened on 20 July 1864 at Krojenke Parish, Flatow, Krojenke, West Prussia; Whitnesses: Dorothea Rutz, Johann Albrecht, Martin Stuve.3 He was the son of Carl Wilhelm Albrecht and Louise Augusta Justine Jeanette Gomoll.1 Family lore says that August Frederick Albrecht was sent by his mother to find his father in 1878 in Indiana. She did this because, a relative had happened upon Carl in Fort Wayne where Carl had gone after diserting the Prussian army. As the story goes, Carl had not told his family where he was. By this time, the family was without means of support, living with a grandmother (Gomoll?) and were very poor. So, Auguste barrowed enough money from her mother to send August to see Car had not made contact.4 August may actually have immigrated on 18 October 1879 to New York, New York; because, while August "Fred" dones not seem to appear on the passinger lists for 1878, there is a 1879 listing for August Albright in which the the person's age agrees with August's. If so, he was listed in stearge on the Vessel Oder out of Bremen and Southampton.5 He married Henerette Musfeldt, daughter of August Musfeldt and Margret Mueller, on 20 June 1888 at Chicago, Illinois; Married at the Luthern Church at 51st Street and Marshfield Ave. by Paster Fritag at 2:00 pm. The marriage License indicates that they were in fact married on the 30th.6,7 After obtaining his Naturalization Papers on 15 Sep 1888 in the District Court of Cook County, he registered to vote on 11 March 1890 at 4725 Justine St., Chicago, Cook County, Illinoise.8 By 1900 August and Henrietta had moved to Iowa and they appeared on the census of 22 June 1900 in Sweetland, Muscatine County, Iowa, August's occupation was listed as "Farmer."9 August Frederick Albrecht at some time before the 1900 cemsis. August began going by Albright rather than Albrecht. By 1910, August and Henrietta had returned to Chicago where they appeared on the census of 10 April 1910 in Chicago (Ward 31).10 August and Henrietta both appeared on the census of 5 January 1920 in Chicago.11 August appeared on the census of 17 April 1930 in Chicago.12 Nine years after Henerette's death, August married Anna Glym on 18 June 1936.13 August died on 17 December 1939 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 75 He was buried in the Mt. Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago; His death certificate provided the fallowing. August Frederick Albrecht. Retired RR Worker. Death certificate No. 0003815; informant: Augusta Bollhoffer.1,14,2

ChartsSome Descendants of Edward Patrick Farrell of Balingarry Parish, Tipperary, Ireland
Last Edited30 Mar 2023
Edward Patrick Farrell was born on 29 September 1864 at Gortfree?, Balingarry Parish, Tippararry, Ireland; This date agrees with the 1900 U.S. Census. In 1910 his age was recorded as 51 which would make him born in 1859. In 1920, his age was given as 52 which would make him born in 1868.3,4,1 He was the son of John Farrell and Mary Kinney.2 An Edward Farrell was born to Patrick Farrell and Margaret Fitzgibbon. Could this this Edward Patrick Farrell? Clogheen is some way south of Balingarry Parish so it seems unlikely. on 20 September 1866 at Clogheen, Tipperary, Ireland.5
It appears that Ed immigrated on 23 October 1874 from Queenstown, Ireland; Although the passenger list gives his name as "Patrick Farrell", his age is right and according to family lore, the year of immagration is right and since all Irishmen were call Paddy, this might well be "Edward Patrick". It should be noted that his birth date and year of immagration as given on the U.S. Census Records was as fallows: 1900 census: (1874, born Sep. 1864); 1910 census: (1870, born 1859); 1920 census: (1877, born 1868). Although there is no written documentation, his final destination is thought to have been to a close relative in the Minneapolis-St Paul area. Family lore then has him mining in Butte, Montana before migrating to Baker County, Oregon. At some point he became aquatinted with Griffith Steele, his soon to be father-in-law. "Dick" told him that he had a little black eyed girl (Eliza Laura) for him and that is how Eliza and Ed met and married.6,7,1
Ed married Eliza Laura "Gram" Steele, daughter of Griffith Dickerson "Dick" Steele and Eliza Jane Smith, on 21 November 1895 at Salt Lake, Salt Lake County, Utah; See Salt Lake County Volume F, Page 356.8 Ed and Lyda first appeared together, with Edna and Ruby, on the census of 16 June 1900 in Iron Dyke, Union County, Oregon; Ed's occupation was listed as Miner-Ore. He was a Mineral Prospector and mined mostly Silver, Gold and Copper. The 1900 Census said that Edward was born born in Ireland Sep 1864.9 The Iron Dike referred to as a location for the 1900 census record probably is the Iron Dike Mine community which was located near Homestead, Oregon. The Iron Dike Copper mine site was first discovered in 1897. Ed Farrell had prospected the general area for gold and silver in the early 1890's. Fallowing his marriage to Eliza in Salt Lake City, he appears to have tried his luck in Delmar, South Easter Navada. Their first child, Edna, was born in Delmar. He must not have had very much luck for they were at Carson Baker County, Oregon by 1899. When daughter Rosita was born they living in Homestead, Oregon, also in Baker County. The remained in Baker County until after 1910. When their son Eddie was born, they were recorded in Fort Bidwell, Modock County, California. In 1912 when son Charles was born, they were in Golconda, Nevada in 1914. By the 1920 Census, they were living in Auburn, California where Ed listed himself as a gold miner.10 Ed and Eliza they also appeared on the census of 19 April 1910 in Baker City, Baker County, Oregon.11 They last appear together on the census of 17 January 1920 in Auburn, California.10
On 28 April 1923 Edward Patrick Farrell died of complications associated with influenza at Auburn at age 58.1
The connection between Edward Patrick Farrell and what is believed to be his uncle or a cousin to his father John, Patrick Farrell, and their Irish ancestry is based on the fallowing: 1) Edward Patrick alway's said that he was born in the Parish of Balingarry, in County Tipperary, Ireland; 2) His wife, Eliza Laura was said to tease him about the fact that his mother was a Kenny (supposedly an "Orange" family name; 3) According to some family lore, when he first came to the States, he lived with a relative perhaps in Minnesota or Wisconsin. 4); In a reply query by Joane Pratt Striebich on the ballingarry.freeforum.org in 2012 she received the fallowing: "I have read you message and would like to let you know that my great grandfather was a brother of Edward Farrell. The family lived in Gortfree and there were nine children in the family. one name I am unsure of but the others were called: William, Elizabeth, John, Brigid, Mary, Patrick and my G Grandfather Michael. Their father's name was John Farrell and he married to Mary Kenny. John's father's name was William and his mother's name was Judy Croke. William's father's name was John Farrell(1751-1811) and his mother's name was Mary Egan(1761 - 1829). John's father's name was patrick and he was born in 1721 and died in 1782"; 6) A Patrick Farrell, of the correct age to have been a brother of Ed's father, immagrated to the States from Tipperary Ireland circa 1848. He married a "Kate" either in Ireland or the States circa 1848. That Patick Farrell settled in and raised a family in Rock County, Wisconsin; 7) A desicendant of that Patrick Farrell has a reasonably close DNA (shared 39cm across 2 DNA segmants) match to at least 2 decendants of Edward Patrick Farrell. 8) There appears to be no other family connection between the descendants of the Wisconsin Patrick Farrell and those of Edward Patrick Farrell. Ergo, Patrick and Edward are prabably bothe from the Farrell family that was living in the Ballingary Parish of Tippararry Ireland during the mid 19th century. Since the DNA match indicates that the relationship at least a 4th generation relationship, it seems that while there may be a generatiional Edward Patrick and Patrick were at least 1rst cousins.3,4
