Amalie "Mollie" Auguste Albrecht was born on 22 April 1874 at Flatow, Krajence, Koszalin, West Prussia.3 She was the daughter of Carl Wilhelm Albrecht and Louise Augusta Justine Jeanette Gomoll.2 She immigrated with her mother, brothers and sisters circa 1880 to Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, her father having come earlier (sometime in the 1870's). The 1900 U.S. Census lists the number of years she had been in the United States as 20 years. Her year of immigration is listed as 1879 in the 1910 U.S. Census. Mollie's son Norm often said that his mother told him that they came through New York (which he called Ellis Island) and that the immigration service quarantined them until a relative (supposedly a Studebaker or a Wannamaker?) came to vouch for them. Numerous search's of New York passenger list have failed to discover the families immigration date or the vessel on which they came.4 She married William Joseph Pratt, son of Uriah Hitite Pratt and Mary Ann Brown, on 26 March 1896 at Hyde Park, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.5,6 Mollie and Bill were appeared on the census of 13 June 1900 in Chicago; City of Chicago, Thirty-second ward; 43 Precinct.4 Some time between 1900 and 1903, Mollie and Bill left Chicago and moved to at Belvidere, Boone County, Illinios; This move was reflected in the fact that their son Bill was born in Chicago while son Norman was born in Belvidere.7 Bill and Mollie appeared in census of 17 April 1910 in Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois.8 Bill died in Belvidere on 23 February 1918 leaving Mollie a widow for nerarly 36 years; Bill suffered for a long time with intestinal problems which were probably related to appendicitis. He died of peritonitis (listed on his death certificate as a septic infection) resulting from a burst appendix. From and obituary Sunday, February 24, 1918 "survive one daughter, Hazel, three sons, William R., Norman and Fred, all of Belvidere, his father, Uriah Pratt of Detroit and two sisters, Miss J. Pratt of Chicago and Mrs. C Montross of Detroit. The deceased has lived in Belvidere eighteen years, and was a well known and respected citizen.9,10,11" A widowed Mollie and her three son's were listed together on the census of 5 January 1920 in Belvidere.12 When her son Norm went west to attend Stanford University, Mollie migrated to the San Francisco Bay area of California. She remained in the Bay Area where she worked until she retired and moved to Orland, California. Shortly before her death, she moved back to Hazel Crest, Illinois where she lived with her daughter Hazel.7 Mollie appeared on the census of 7 April 1930 in Portrero Home of the San Francisco Hospital, San Francisco.13 She also appeared on the census of 1 May 1940 in Orland, Glenn County, California.14 Mollie died on 21 January 1954 at HazelCrest, Midlothian County, Illinois, at age 79; Obit: BDR- 22 Jan 1954 - Death Claims Mollie Pratt - Mrs. Mollie E. Pratt, widow of the late W. J. Pratt, died in Chicago Thursday evening at the age of 79. She resided in Belvidere from 1902 to until 1926, residing since in California and Chicago. She was born 23 April 1874, and was married to William J. Pratt in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1918. Survivors include two sons, Fred of Orland, Cal., and Norman of Los Gatos, Cal; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Goeke of Hazelcrest; six grandchildren, including William R. Pratt of this city; five great grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann and Edith, Chicago, and Minnie of California.
