William Hutchcroft was born on 15 May 1842 at England; The 1900 Cnsus has the year of birth as 1845 not 1842.3,4 He was the son of Thomas Hutchcroft and Jane/June (?)2 William Hutchcroft married Pheobe J Duncan, daughter of John Duncan, on 8 June 1866 at Grant County, Wisconsin.5,6 William Hutchcroft and Pheobe J Duncan appeared on the census of 11 June 1870 in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin.5 William Hutchcroft married Mary J Calt, probably his second wife, daughter of John Kalt and Christiana (?), on 30 January 1878 at Grant County, Wisconsin.1,7 William Hutchcroft and Mary J Calt appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin.4 William Hutchcroft and Mary J Calt William Jr. filed as an Invalid of his Civil War Service (Application No. 634148). his aplication was later certified (Certificate No. 474119). on 29 December 1887 at Grant County., Wisconsin.8 William Hutchcroft and what was probably his son William Hutchcroft Jr. Both appeared on the census of 1890 in Grant County, Wisconsin; William Hutchcroft Sr was listed on th Census of Veterans and Widows of the Civil War. He was listed as Pri. in Company C of the 2nd Wisconsin Calvary. Sr inlisted in Aug of 1864 and was discharged in June of 1865. William Jr. was also a private in company C, 2nd Wisconsin Cal. but Inlisted on 7 Nov 1861 and was discharged on 38 Nov 1865.9,10 William Hutchcroft appeared on the census of 20 June 1900 in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin.1 They appeared on the census of 18 April 1910 in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin.11 He died on 29 December 1918 at Grant County, Wisconsin, at age 76.3 He and William Hutchcroft There are at least two William Hutchcrofts who were living in Grant County, Wisconsin by the mid 1800's. Both were born in England (Yorkshire) and both, William (often referred to as Sr and William (often refired to as Jr) seemed to have served as privates in Company C of the 2nd Wisconsin Calvary. It would lead one to believe that William Jr was the son of William Sr. How ever, based on the 1860 census in Glen Haven, the William who was born born in 1842 (or 1845) is the son of Thomas Hutchcroft, born in England circa 1815. Thomas and the older William were both sons of Edward Hutchcroft. The younger William would have been the nephew of the Older William, not his son.2
