My dad as well as my mother told me that my grandfather dressed up as Santa and stood on the corner of the poor side of town and handed out presents". His brother Norman remembered him as a hard worker who when the family was experiencing financial problems, even though still in grade school, took a job delivering milk for a local dairy, a 2am start.¹⁰ He died on 22 December 1951 at Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois, at age 51.² He was buried on 25 December 1951.¹¹
