A Marine Corps muster roll showes that he was part of the the 159th Company, 1st Regiment between 8 November 1918 and 12 June 1919 at U.S.M.C. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba..4,5 Bill married Elsie Flornce Darby, daughter of Elihu "Elmer" Darby and Louisa Claire Raab, on 21 November 1919 in Church Of The Advent, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.3,6 He was listed as a 19 year old electrician when he appeared with his widowed mother in the census of on 5 January 1920 at Belvidere.7 William Reen Pratt and , and Elsie Flornce Darby appeared on the census of 18 April 1930 in Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois.8 They also appeared on the census of 5 April 1940 in Belvidere, Illinois.9 William Reen Pratt Bill Pratt was a well respected business man and community leader in Belvidere for most of his adult life. He was an active member and past president of both chapters of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also an active member of the "IOU Club which was established in 1924 by twenty down- town businessmen to engage in charitable activities involving Belvidere/ Boone County children. The club has grown to a 50 local businessmen organization that annually hosts the Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, First Grade Christmas Program and IOU Club Shopping Tour. The IOU Club contributes to many local youth-focused organizations such as the Belvidere Family YMCA, Belvidere Park District summer camp program, Boone County Conservation District summer camp, Belvidere Youth Baseball, School District 100/Rock Valley College Running Start Program and many other worthwhile youth activities. In raising money they would put on plays which (can you picture this) they both acted in. My dad as well as my mother told me that my grandfather dressed up as Santa and stood on the corner of the poor side of town and handed out presents". His brother Norman remembered him as a hard worker who when the family was experiencing financial problems, even though still in grade school, took a job delivering milk for a local dairy, a 2am start.10 He died on 22 December 1951 at Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois, at age 51.2 He was buried on 25 December 1951.11
