His doctoral dissertation, entitled "Compression in the Old Spanish Poema del Cid" was published in the Revue Hispanica".4 Alfred appears on a passport application on 6 June 1894 at Cambridge, Suffolk, Massachusetts. On a passport application form, he swore that he was born in Bridgeport Connecticut, that his father is a native citizen, that he resides in Cambridge and that he intends to return about Oct of 1895. The form is witnessed by one Hendrick A. Hallet of 42 Court W, Bostan Mass. Authors note: Hendrick Hallet was an artist of note whos sea scapes are well knowen on the eastern seaboard.5 Alfred married Laura Belle Haven, daughter of Ira O Haven and Elvira Ford, circa 1897; "Bell" (as she was called) was 16 and 1/2 years older than Alfred and may in fact have been Alfred's high school English teacher.6 Alfred Coester appeared on the census of 14 June 1900 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; he listed himself as being married for two years and listed his ccupation Teacher.7 On 15 July 1901 at 47 Park So, Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut, a passport application (No:45698) made by Alfred states that he is currently living at Cleveland, Ohio, is occupied as Schoolmaster and that He will return to the US within two years, accompanied by his Wife.5 Alred and Belle appeared on the census of 29 April 1910 in 24 Ward, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.8 They appeared on the New York State census of 1 June 1915 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.9 On 29 March 1918, on a passport Application: "Alfred says that his Father is Charles Coester who was born in New Jersey and deceased in 1909 in Connecticut. It further Indicates that He has resided in Germany and France (july 1894 to July 1895) and in Spain from Aug 1901 to June 1902. That his previous passport has been destroyed. It indicates that he will travel to Chile, Argintina, Uraguay and Brazil to study European Colonies".10 Dr. Alfred Lester Coester was recorded on a World War I Draft Registration Card, on 12 September 1918 at Brooklyn, New York; Alfreds WWI Draft Card lists his wife as Belle H. Coester and his occupation as teacher at the Commercial High School in New York City.11 Alfred and Belle appeared on the census of 17 January 1920 in Emmerson Street, Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California; Alfred's age was listed as 45. Norm had worked for and lived in Alfie's Chauffer'ss.dak. apartment while attending Stanford, University and Alfred treated Norm much as he might have treated his own son. After the death of Alfred's second wife, Alfred became a common sight in the Burke-Pratt household sharing many Sunday dinners with the Pratt's and Burke's. When Norms son's, Paul and David, became tired of Alfies stories at those Sunday dinners, they would come up with a reason to leave the table as fast as possible. It was not long before Alfred fondly began to refer to them as the gobble and get boys! After Alfred's retirement from Stanford, the Pratt's, at Alfred's expense, built a cottage on their property at Wanda Lane in Los Gatis where Alfred to live for the remainder of his life. at Palo Alto, California. Norman and Marion though enough of "Alfie" to make him godfather to son David and use Coester as his middle name.14 Dr. Alfred Lester Coester and Hendricks A Hallett were at one time room mates at Boston, Massachusetts; An american artist.16 Dr. Alfred Lester Coester and Theodore Jesse Hoover were were both Proffesors at Standford University and longtime associates.
